Pop-Up Magazine Gives Creatives a Chance to Share their Unpublished Work

On February 5, Pop-Up Magazine’s unique showcase for creative will be held at the Theatre at the Ace Hotel downtown. The event is specifically open to all different mediums of sharing and performances, just as long as the work has not been published prior to the event. It gives the writers, photographers, filmmakers etc. a chance to discuss their current projects. Some of the work is created for the event, while other pieces will be chosen portions from ongoing works.

Another unique twist on this event is that is not filmed. No video or audio means that it remains a truly unique experience for everyone involved. The event is a sure way to make some discoveries about creatives who you’ll be hearing about soon enough else wear. (If you haven’t heard of them already. Past performers include Beck, Kumail Nanjiani, Sasheer Zamata, Michael Pollan, Ava DuVernay, Ira Glass, and many others. The performers and the audience are free to hang out post-show to enjoy drinks and do some mingling at the gorgeous Ace.

The Theatre, by the way, is a work of art in and of itself. It was built in the 1920’s as the flagship movie house of United Artists. Its Spanish gothic-style design retains all of its glory thanks to careful restoration, and these days also boasts all the sound and lighting technology it could possibly need to host as many events as it does.

Pop-Up Magazine also holds their events in other cities like San Francisco, New York, Austin, New Orleans, and Atlanta.

The show starts Monday, February 5 at 730 PM. Tickets are on sale now and range from $35-49.
